A visit from MindViz

A few days ago, I received an email from MindViz (a site similar to MySpace, but not as popular) that my profile for Angelchrome was going to be featured on the front page on the 20th February. So I nearly choked and thought "Jesus, I've only got one song on there!" So I went to their website, only to find out I was already on the front page, to which I thought, "JESUS, I'VE ONLY GOT ONE SONG ON THERE!"

Behold!

Nice shot of my forehead! Maybe I ought to change my main picture for this page so it'll look better next time.

I spent ages trying to get more music on there, but for some reason everytime I uploaded a new song, MindViz deleted a previously uploaded song. I managed to get 'Almost There' and 'Tangent' on the site, which I'm happy enough with, for now. It's not like it did any good because it seems barely anyone even visits the site, or checks out the new bands... but none the less, I oughta make an impression if it does get re-featured on the 20th. Hopefully by then, I will have some new demos to put up, which will be more appropriate. The success of that depends on whether I can get Mike Osborne to spend a day adding bass guitar to my tracks. I've booked the studio for the 11th, but getting him down is a different matter.

Coming to think of it, there only seems to be 4-500,000 members on the site all together, which isn't a lot compared to MySpace. Still, I got featured on the same page as MSI and Amanda Palmer, which is more than good enough for me.

Less than a week to go....

Just a little procrastination

I took some time out from downloading mountains of research PDF files (and printing them!!) to write some more music. Tim and I spent the past couple of weekends feeding off Nandos and listening to music all night. During one of those nights came 'Adore' by the Smashing Pumpkins, which frankly I adore. Neither of us had heard it in a while and a few days later of printing, I suddenly thought, "sod this, I need to write a tune".

It wasn't long, however, before guilt sank back into me and I had to stop, but it was worth it. It's still pretty simple (you noticing the running theme here?) and no chorus part to tie it all together, but I have some big ideas. I'd describe the sound, but it's all MIDI instrumentation right now... only a couple of weeks to go before I can properly get into all this and begin my secret project too.

I'm bought Cansei De Ser Sexy (Portuguese for "I'm tired of being sexy") today and love it. They're playing at the Astoria soon, I might go if tickets are still available. I'm worried it'll be another one of those bands that I get into and suddenly they become huge and then 'everyone' is into them. It's not that that's a bad thing, but the novelty can wear off really quickly by the public's thirst for anything that new, different and enjoyable. Just look at what happened to Franz Ferdinand and The Darkness.

Procrastination is over, back to some printing.

Life's eternal hangover

It looks like things have ground to a halt since returning to London on New Years Day. It was a great break and I have new ideas in that dusty head of mine but I haven't even worked on the demos from beforehand (I still like them with a fresh ear, hooray). I have to work on the guitar and vocal edits for 'It Felt Like Forever', but that's pretty much it. Coming back has been an "Oh my god, I'm back at work and have only four weeks left to finish Andy's industry assignment" senario. In other words, I doubt I'll be updating much in the next month.

It's not that I really mind doing other work, it just depends where my head is at. I've registered to be able to make ISRC codes with PPL and VPL to release my work under, as part of my current assignment; the video for Anamnesis is being sorted now. I'm not even sure if I want to release my own music under my own label. There seems little point in going with a major with the industry in its current state, but the financial requirements to go it alone is seriously risky - especially when that requires a decent fan base to begin with... which I don't have.

Also listening to a bizarre combination of The Knife (who are awesome), Rogue Traders and Nelly Furtado (???) currently, not sure why, but it's different.

So right now I'm just going to be patient, a little at a time and we'll see how it goes.
